School Assembly: LITTER

(0)
Approximately 15 - 20 minutes long. Song, music and prayer included. Slide 1: Opening slide. Slide 2: Why do people drop litter? Students can discuss this question with the person sitting next to them and share their thoughts with you. Slides 3 to 20: The consequences of dropping litter (to the environment, wildlife and oceans). Lots of opportunities to discuss the ‘hard-hitting’ slides. Slide 21: An appropriate prayer about our world and the importance of looking after it. Slide 22: Song: ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ Slide 23: A fun ‘poster’ competition for the children to complete (linked directly to the theme). Slide 24:Setting up a litter-picking group in your school Final slide: A slide showing how long it takes for some types of litter to decompose (break down). You may like to refer to this IF the children ask you how long it takes for litter to rot away. This assembly was well received by the students and it helped highlight the importance of caring for our school and local environment … I also noticed a substantial decrease in litter afterwards.
